According to a recent analysis, diabetes, heart disease and lung disease were the most prevalent underlying conditions in New Mexicans who died from COVID-19.
Dr. Denise Gonzales, medical director for adult medical specialties at Presbyterian, has seen the risks of underlying conditions for COVID-19 patients firsthand.
“With every single additional disease, you have additional risk of not being able to respond appropriately and not being able to survive,” she told the Albuquerque Journal.
