Cardiologist Joins Lincoln County Medical Center

Release Date:

August 22, 2018

RUIDOSO, N.M. – Cardiologist Dr. Harold Sunderman wants to help more patients with heart conditions stay close to home in Lincoln County for the care they need.

Dr. Sunderman, who has practiced general cardiology at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque since 2008, also provided cardiac care a few times per month at Lincoln County Medical Center (LCMC) since 2010. Dr. Sunderman has moved his practice to Ruidoso and will now have increased availability.

He is currently providing stress and heart arrhythmia testing, heart ultrasounds and pacemaker monitoring services to help diagnose and treat some of the most common cardiac concerns.

When the new LCMC opens in fall 2019, Dr. Sunderman expects to also provide nuclear stress testing, which uses radioactive dye and an imaging machine to create pictures showing blood flow to the heart. The test can reveal areas with poor blood flow or damage in the heart, and may be used to diagnose coronary artery disease or help guide treatment. LCMC will be the only facility in Lincoln County to provide this service.

"We are thrilled to have Dr. Sunderman join us full time at Lincoln County Medical Center," said Dr. Stephen Otero, medical director, LCMC. "Thanks to his expertise, many heart patients can be diagnosed and treated right here in Ruidoso."

Dr. Sunderman completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and his internal medicine internship, residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Before joining Presbyterian, he served as medical director for Lovelace Health Plan and as an internal medicine physician with Lovelace Health Systems.
