Dr. Stephen Otero named Medical Director for Village of Ruidoso

February 13, 2018

Otero has served as Medical Director for Lincoln County Medical Center since 2014

RUIDOSO, NM – Dr. Stephen Otero, medical director for Lincoln County Medical Center and Lincoln County Emergency Medical Services (LCMC EMS), took on a new community role when he became medical director for the Village of Ruidoso in January.

In this volunteer position he hopes to build on the relationship between LCMC EMS and the Village Fire Department.

"As the Village medical director, I hope to strengthen the relationship between LCMC EMS and the Ruidoso Fire Department," Otero said. "We have an opportunity to coordinate training and quality reviews to improve the care of our patients.  The main goal is to maintain a high standard of safe, quality care for our community."

"The Village is grateful for Dr. Otero's willingness to support our needs as medical director and we look forward to a positive relationship with LCMC EMS, " said Debi Lee, Village Manager, Village of Ruidoso. "Ruidoso is a wonderful place to live and our partnership with LCMC is vital to our citizens and the quality of life in our community."

As medical director for LCMC, he provides quality oversight for the hospital and recruits and manages physicians and advance practice clinicians, in addition to seeing patients at the Presbyterian Medical Group clinic at LCMC.

As medical director at LCMC, Otero has had many notable accomplishments. In November 2017, he was among 30 physicians honored by the New Mexico Department of Health for their work caring for rural New Mexicans. In January 2018, LCMC was one of only two hospitals in the state to earn a five-star rating, the highest possible, from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  He is also proud of his efforts to recruit talented physicians to Ruidoso, including two general surgeons, two emergency physicians, an obstetrician/gynecologist and a family medicine physician in 2017.

Otero, who has lived in Ruidoso for 14 years and has coached Little League baseball and football for many years, is married to Michelle Otero, a pharmacy technician, and has three children – Isaiah, 18, Xavier, 15, and Sierra, 13.
